丝光棉面料一般是含棉的，但含量可以是100%棉、部分棉混纺其他成分，如聚酯纤维(涤纶)、尼龙(锦纶)、氨纶等成分。即使是不含棉纤维的丝光面料也不少见。

结构性能：纯棉横截面为不规则椭圆形，丝光棉横截面为圆形。纯棉的纵截面自然扭曲，丝光棉的表面皱纹消失，变得光滑。

其实丝光棉也是属于纯棉，只是比纯棉多了一个丝光工艺，这是工艺上的区别。丝光棉一般用于制作高档POLO衫和T恤，所以使用的面料一般是新疆棉和高档美棉，纯棉是普通棉，这是原料的区别。
